Lasting power of attorney fees
Funeral Cost Index captures the fees solicitor firms publish for preparing a lasting power of attorney. The figures below are the firm's own charge — the Office of the Public Guardian registration fee of £92 per LPA is payable on top of every one of them.
Lasting powers of attorney are outside the SRA Transparency Rules, so no firm is obliged to publish a price for one. Every row here is a voluntary disclosure, and a firm absent from this page has not published a figure rather than failed to comply.
These are the latest published LPA fees captured from solicitors' own pages. Each is the firm's professional charge for preparing the document; the statutory registration fee is excluded from every row and added separately.

There are two kinds of lasting power of attorney: one for property and financial affairs, and one for health and welfare. They are separate documents, registered separately and charged separately. A firm quoting a single price is usually quoting for one, so check which before comparing it with anything else on this page.
The registration fee is set by statute and is the same wherever you go: £92 (Office of the Public Guardian, gov.uk, checked 7 September 2026) for one LPA, or £184 (Office of the Public Guardian, gov.uk, checked 7 September 2026) for both, in England and Wales. A reduction or exemption is available on a low income. That fee goes to the Office of the Public Guardian, not to the solicitor, and it is deliberately kept out of the captured figures above so the two are never confused.
An LPA is the document that takes effect while you are alive. The other half of planning ahead is a will, and — where the question is the funeral itself — the prepaid funeral plan section, which sets published plan prices against what a funeral costs at the time.
