Pure Cremation cost: prices and how they compare

Pure Cremation’s published price for a direct (unattended) cremation is £1,595, all-in — this figure already includes the cremation fee, a solid pine coffin, collection and transport, care of the person who has died, and return of the ashes. There is no service, procession or mourners at the crematorium; families can hold a separate memorial whenever they wish.

Direct cremation is the cleanest like-for-like figure to compare, because the published price should always include the cremation fee. Across the CMA Standardised Price Lists captured by Funeral Cost Index, direct cremation ranges from £712 at the lower end, with the lower quartile around £1,240 — so some local funeral directors publish a lower-cost direct cremation than a national provider, while others publish more.

The £1,595 direct cremation covers the funeral director’s charges plus the cremation fee. From the published price list, the funeral director’s charges break down as:

• Legal and administrative arrangements — £250
• Collection and transport into care — £500
• Care of the person who has died — £345
• A solid pine coffin — £300
• Transport to the crematorium — £200

For an unattended cremation these charges are bundled with the cremation fee into the single £1,595 price. Doctors’ fees and return of ashes are included; embalming, viewing and a funeral officiant are not offered.
